Mon Mar 03 15:36:13 UTC 2025: ## Cross-Complaints Filed After Clash Between Congress and BJP Workers in Mangaluru

**Mangaluru, March 3, 2025** – A political clash erupted in Mangaluru on Sunday during the ‘Brahmakalashotsava’ programme at the Krishna Bhajana Mandira in Nalyapadavu, leading to cross-complaints filed by Congress and BJP workers.

A Congress worker, Yashwanth Prabhu, filed a complaint against Mangaluru City South MLA D. Vedavyasa Kamath and several BJP workers, alleging assault and abuse following a confrontation. Prabhu claims the MLA instigated the attack after a verbal exchange. The complaint cites offences under several sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, including assault and incitement.

In a counter-complaint, R. Mani, a 42-year-old who was accompanying the MLA, accused Congress workers, including Prabhu, of abuse and assault. Mani, who identifies as a member of a Scheduled Tribe, claims he was targeted with casteist slurs. This complaint invokes sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe (Prevention of Atrocities) Act.

The Kankanady police have registered both complaints. Dakshina Kannada Pradesh Congress Committee president K. Harish Kumar condemned the MLA’s alleged behavior, while BJP District spokesperson Rajgopal Rai countered that the Congress complaint was fabricated and that a member of a Scheduled Tribe community was assaulted by Congress workers. The incident occurred after MLA Kamath, and MLC Ivan D’Souza attended the religious program. The investigation is underway.
