Mon Mar 03 16:08:28 UTC 2025: ## Andhra Pradesh Sizzles as Temperatures Soar Above Normal
**Vijayawada, March 3, 2025** – Andhra Pradesh is experiencing a scorching start to summer, with temperatures already exceeding normal levels just days after the India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecast a hotter-than-usual season. Kurnool recorded the highest temperature in the state on Monday, reaching 39.5 degrees Celsius – 2.4 degrees above normal. Other districts, including Nandyal, Anantapur, and YSR Kadapa, also saw temperatures climb to near 39 degrees Celsius. Evenings remained uncomfortably warm, with temperatures above 35 degrees Celsius in many areas.
The IMD’s summer outlook, released February 28th, predicted above-normal daytime and nighttime temperatures for March, April, and May, including an increased number of heatwave days. While a brief respite occurred late last week, the mercury has once again begun its climb. IMD-Amaravati Director S. Stella stated that temperatures are expected to continue rising. Some experts predict temperatures could surpass 40 degrees Celsius. Scientist S. Karunasagar from the IMD anticipates fluctuating temperatures, with a potential heatwave in the third week of March.
In response to the IMD’s forecast, the Andhra Pradesh State Disaster Management Authority (APSDMA) has issued a warning, advising residents to stay hydrated and urging vulnerable groups, such as pregnant women, the elderly, and children, to limit their time outdoors. The APSDMA provided helpline numbers (112, 1070, 18004250101) for information and has alerted district administrations to take necessary precautions, including two-day advance warnings for heatwaves. The authority also noted the possibility of thunderstorms due to cumulonimbus cloud formation. Residents are advised to take precautions such as carrying umbrellas and completing outdoor tasks during the cooler morning hours.
