**Hisar, Haryana:** A woman has been arrested in Hisar, Haryana, following the widespread circulation of a disturbing video depicting her violently assaulting her mother. The three-minute video, filmed in Modern Saket Colony, shows Rita repeatedly attacking her mother, Nirmala Devi, including biting, slapping, and pulling her hair. Rita is heard threatening to drink her mother’s blood during the assault.
The video prompted Rita’s brother, Amardeep Singh, to file a police complaint. Singh alleges that Rita has been holding their mother captive and subjecting her to prolonged physical and mental abuse to pressure her into transferring family property. He claims Rita, who remarried two years ago but returned to her parents’ home, has already pocketed ₹65 lakh (approximately $78,000 USD) from the sale of a family property in Kurukshetra and now seeks to seize their remaining assets. Singh also stated that Rita had prevented him from visiting their mother and threatened to make false accusations against him.
The police have registered a case against Rita under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (Indian Penal Code) and the Maintenance and Welfare of Parents and Senior Citizens Act, 2007. Inspector Sadhuram, Station Head Officer of Azad Nagar Police Station, confirmed the arrest. The investigation is ongoing. The incident has sparked outrage on social media, highlighting concerns about elder abuse and the urgent need for stronger protections for senior citizens.
