**Nagarkurnool, Telangana –** A major rescue operation is underway in Nagarkurnool, Telangana, following the partial collapse of the Srisailam Left Bank Canal (SLBC) tunnel on February 22nd. Eight workers – engineers and laborers from various states – remain trapped.
A significant breakthrough occurred Saturday when the National Geophysical Research Institute (NGRI) located four of the eight missing individuals using Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR). However, officials admit the chances of survival for these four are slim, as they are believed to be trapped beneath the tunnel boring machine. The remaining four are also thought to be trapped, but their exact location remains unknown.
Efforts to remove silt and debris are being intensified, with increased personnel and equipment deployed. Repairs to a damaged conveyor belt are expected to be completed by Monday, facilitating faster removal of the muck. The dewatering process is also ongoing.
Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy will visit the site Sunday evening to review the operation. State Excise Minister Jupally Krishna Rao stated that rescuing the individuals trapped beneath the tunnel boring machine will take considerable time.
The rescue mission involves 18 organizations, 54 officials, and 703 personnel. The trapped workers have been identified as Manoj Kumar (Uttar Pradesh), Sri Niwas (Uttar Pradesh), Sunny Singh (Jammu and Kashmir), Gurpreet Singh (Punjab), and Sandeep Sahu, Jegta Xess, Santosh Sahu, and Anuj Sahu (all from Jharkhand). The operation continues.
