Sun Mar 02 01:30:00 UTC 2025: ## Rescue Efforts Continue After Srisailam Left Canal Tunnel Accident
**Mahabubnagar/Nagar Kurnool/Dornalapenta, March 1, 2025** – Rescue operations are underway following a tunnel accident at the Srisailam Left Canal. Authorities are employing Aqua-I sonar technology and Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR) to locate workers trapped within the tunnel. NGRI teams have identified five potential areas, 80-100 meters from the 13.5 km mark, at a depth of 6 feet, containing soft material within the mud. Singareni miners are excavating these areas, where a foul odor has been reported. Officials state these areas may or may not contain bodies.
Nagar Kurnool District Collector Badawat Santosh has addressed rumors circulating on social media, clarifying that much of the information is unconfirmed and possibly fake news. He stated that progress in identifying the workers will be released to the media as it becomes available. Meanwhile, mud removal and TBM cutting operations are continuing.
On Friday, Singareni CMD Balaram stated that the location of the trapped workers remains unknown, with the TBM’s front end located 13.9 km inside the tunnel. He expects clarity within two days. He also urged the public to disregard misinformation on social media.
A BJP delegation is scheduled to visit the Srisailam Left Bank Canal (SLBC) project site on Saturday, led by MLA Eletti Maheshwar Reddy.
Minister Juppalli Krishna Rao criticized the BRS for spreading false information about the incident for political gain, while MLC Gutta Sukhender Reddy suggested that greater attention to the SLBC project in the past could have prevented the accident.
Meanwhile, workers from JP Company, employed at the tunnel, are returning to their home states (Jharkhand, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Punjab, etc.) after the accident, citing unpaid wages (3 months) and a lack of financial assistance for travel from the company.
