Sun Mar 02 06:19:24 UTC 2025: ## Teenager Critically Burned After Alleged Assault, Sets Self Ablaze in Lucknow

**Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh –** A 17-year-old girl is fighting for her life after suffering 60% burns in a self-immolation incident following an alleged assault by a neighbor in Lucknow’s Malihabad area. Police have registered a case against the accused, 23-year-old Rahul, who allegedly entered the victim’s home while she was alone and assaulted her on Sunday.

According to the victim’s family, Rahul fled the scene after the girl raised the alarm. Overwhelmed by shame and trauma, she subsequently set herself on fire. Neighbors extinguished the flames and rushed her to the civil hospital where she remains in critical condition.

The girl’s father, a private driver, and his wife were at the hospital due to his illness when the incident occurred. Upon hearing their daughter’s screams, they returned home and immediately took her to the hospital.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Lucknow, Vishwajeet Shrivastava, confirmed that an FIR has been filed against Rahul under sections 333/74/107/62 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and sections 7/8 of the POCSO Act. Police are actively pursuing his arrest.

The victim’s family has appealed for swift justice and stringent punishment for the accused. The investigation is ongoing.
