Sat Mar 01 23:30:00 UTC 2025: ## Former Purdue Star Hummel Endorses McDermott for Indiana Coaching Job

**BLOOMINGTON, IN –** With the Indiana Hoosiers searching for a new basketball head coach, former Purdue standout and current college basketball analyst Robbie Hummel has weighed in on the matter, giving his strong endorsement to Greg McDermott of Creighton. Hummel, speaking on a recent Field of 68 podcast, cited McDermott’s modern, three-point oriented offense and success at Creighton, a program with fewer resources than Indiana, as key reasons for his support.

McDermott’s impressive track record at Creighton includes a Big East regular season title, an Elite Eight appearance, and consistent top-tier finishes in the conference over the past decade. His teams have frequently ranked among the nation’s leaders in effective field goal percentage and three-point attempts.

While acknowledging that McDermott might be content to remain at Creighton, where he recently received a contract extension, Hummel believes his coaching style and demeanor would be a good fit for Indiana. The timing, however, could be a factor. With key players graduating from Creighton’s roster after the 2024-25 season, a departure then might be more likely.

McDermott, who was reportedly a candidate for other high-profile jobs last year, has publicly stated his desire to remain at Creighton. Nevertheless, his success and proven ability make him a compelling candidate for the Indiana opening.
