Sat Mar 01 19:00:00 UTC 2025: ## Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Vows to Protect Tamil Language on 72nd Birthday
**Chennai, March 1, 2025** – Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin, celebrating his 72nd birthday on Saturday, reiterated his commitment to safeguarding the Tamil language and resisting attempts to impose Hindi in the state. Addressing reporters, he declared his birthday message to be a continued defense of the two-language policy, opposition to Hindi imposition, and a demand for greater state autonomy.
Mr. Stalin administered an oath to DMK cadre, pledging unwavering opposition to Hindi imposition and a united fight for Tamil Nadu’s rights. He highlighted the actions of the Aam Aadmi Party in Punjab (making Punjabi mandatory in schools) and the Telangana Congress government (making Telugu compulsory) as evidence contradicting BJP claims that the National Education Policy promotes regional languages. He accused the BJP of a hidden agenda to promote Hindi and Sanskrit at the expense of regional languages, asserting that Tamil Nadu has exposed this strategy.
The Chief Minister’s stance follows his fifth letter to party cadre on the issue of language imposition. He visited memorials of former Chief Ministers Karunanidhi and Annadurai, and social reformer Periyar, paying tribute to their legacies. He also received birthday greetings from President Droupadi Murmu, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, and other prominent figures, including a message of support from Lok Sabha Leader of the Opposition Rahul Gandhi emphasizing the preservation of India’s diversity and federal structure.
