Sun Mar 02 06:42:27 UTC 2025: ## AAP Appoints Acting President for Assam Unit, Condemns BJP’s Governance
**Guwahati, March 2, 2025** – The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has appointed Bhaban Choudhury as the acting president of its Assam unit. This follows the inactivity of the permanent president, Manoj Dhanowar, due to personal reasons. Choudhury, who previously held the position before Dhanowar, assumed his new role on Saturday, March 1st, following a unanimous decision by the party’s executive committee.
In his first statement, Choudhury sharply criticized the ruling BJP government in Assam, accusing it of escalating political violence, suppressing dissent, and launching defamation campaigns against opposition leaders and their families. He alleged that the BJP is deliberately creating a chaotic environment to instill fear among the populace ahead of the 2026 Assembly elections.
Choudhury cited rising public discontent over issues such as soaring prices, communal tensions, environmental destruction, and recurring floods. He specifically condemned the Justice (retd) Biplab Kumar Sharma Commission report on the Assam Public Service Commission (APSC) scam, calling it politically motivated and biased. He further accused the government of selectively targeting opposition members’ families with defamation while ignoring serious allegations of corruption within the ruling party.
Choudhury concluded by asserting that the BJP government, under Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, has lowered the standards of Assam’s political discourse and is prioritizing personal vendettas over good governance. He expressed grave concern over this trend’s impact on the state’s political future.
