**Kozhikode, Kerala, February 28, 2025** – Muslims in Kerala are expected to commence the holy month of Ramadan on Sunday, March 2nd, contingent upon the sighting of the new moon after sunset on Saturday, March 1st. Several prominent Islamic organizations are anticipating the moon’s appearance on Saturday, the 29th day of Shaban, the Islamic month preceding Ramadan.
Leading Kazis, including Syed Jifri Muthukoya Thangal, Syed Sadikali Shihab Thangal, Kanthapuram A.P. Aboobacker Musliar, Syed Ibrahim Khaleel Bukhari, Syed Nasar Hayy Shihab Thangal, and Syed Mohammed Koya Thangal Jamalullaili, have urged the public to report any sightings of the new moon on Saturday evening.
However, a smaller faction within the Mujahid group, the Kerala Nadvathul Mujahideen (KNM) Markazudahwa, has declared that they will begin their Ramadan fast on Saturday.
Ramadan is a month of fasting from dawn to dusk, encompassing abstinence from food, drink, and worldly pleasures. It is a period of spiritual reflection, prayer, Quranic recitation, charitable deeds, and community engagement, designed to foster faith and connection with Allah.
