**Bengaluru, March 1, 2025** – India’s advancement in space exploration, technology, and sustainable development hinges on robust software development, according to Dr. S. Somanath, former Director of the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO). Addressing a summit on “Software Product Management Excellence at Scale” at the Indian Institute of Management-Bangalore (IIM-B), Dr. Somanath stressed the vital role of high-quality, collaboratively developed software.
He highlighted ISRO’s in-house development of software for various applications, including satellite operations, data analysis, and mission simulations, emphasizing the need for accuracy, security, and scientific rigor. These internally developed systems, he noted, power crucial tools like geospatial data portals, disaster management platforms, and climate monitoring tools, benefitting both government agencies and the public.
The summit, a collaboration between IIM-B’s Centre for Software and IT Management and the International Software Product Management Association (ISPMA), brought together academics and industry professionals to discuss various aspects of software product management.
