Tue Feb 25 16:13:36 UTC 2025: ## Mangaluru City Corporation Unveils Budget Focused on Sustainability and Public Health
**Mangaluru, February 25, 2025** – The Mangaluru City Corporation presented its 2025-26 budget today, highlighting initiatives aimed at environmental sustainability and public health. A key feature is the establishment of a “steel bank,” allocating ₹20 lakh (approximately $240,000 USD) for the purchase of reusable steel utensils. These will be provided free of charge to event organizers, encouraging a shift away from disposable plastics. Organizers will only be required to pay a refundable security deposit.
The budget also earmarks ₹25 lakh for a free Human Papillomavirus (HPV) vaccination program targeting girls aged 11-14 from low-income families (annual income under ₹3 lakh). This initiative aims to prevent cervical cancer, aligning with the World Health Organization’s Cervical Cancer Elimination Day of Action.
Addressing the issue of littering, the corporation plans to install 180 CCTV cameras across its 60 wards at a cost of ₹90 lakh. This move is intended to deter illegal dumping and improve sanitation.
Furthermore, the budget proposes the construction of a multi-level car park (MLCP) near the Kadri Manjunatha Temple, addressing growing parking needs due to increased temple attendance. The estimated cost of the MLCP, to be funded through public-private partnerships or government grants, is ₹10 crore.
Finally, ₹3 lakh has been allocated to incentivize NGOs offering free agricultural training to school and college students.
