Tue Feb 25 16:07:31 UTC 2025: ## Police Seize 6,500 kg of PDS Rice Smuggled in Hay-Filled Lorry
**Karaikudi, Tamil Nadu – February 25, 2025** – Police in Sivaganga district have seized 6,500 kg of Public Distribution System (PDS) rice being illegally transported in a lorry disguised with hay. Acting on a tip-off about rice smuggling from Sivaganga and Pudukkottai districts to private processing units, a joint operation by police and civil supplies CID officials intercepted the lorry near Karaikudi on Tuesday.
The rice, contained in 130 bags, was concealed within the hay. Two men, Palanivelu (43) and Karunanidhi (45), the lorry driver and another suspect respectively, were arrested. The seized rice is believed to have been destined for private rice processing units in Pallathur near Karaikudi. Investigations are ongoing.
