Bengaluru, India – Mumbai Indians snatched a thrilling four-wicket victory over defending champions Royal Challengers Bangalore in the Women’s Premier League (WPL) on Friday night. Chasing a challenging 167-run target, Mumbai reached the finish line with just one ball to spare, losing six wickets in the process. A boundary by Jeevitha Kamli off Ekta Bisht sealed the win for Mumbai.
Mumbai captain Harmanpreet Kaur won the toss and opted to bowl first. RCB, despite a shaky start losing three wickets in the powerplay, managed to post 167/7 in their 20 overs, thanks largely to an 81-run knock by Alice Perry and a valuable 28 from Richa Ghosh. Amanjot Kaur was the star for Mumbai, claiming 3 wickets and later contributing an unbeaten 34 runs with the bat, earning her the Player of the Match award.
Mumbai’s chase was also a rollercoaster. They lost an early wicket, but Natalie Sciver-Brunt (42) and Hayley Matthews (15) steadied the ship with a 57-run partnership. Harmanpreet Kaur’s 50 then propelled Mumbai closer to victory, before Amanjot Kaur and Kamli finished the job. Georgia Wareham took 3 wickets for RCB.
Despite the loss, RCB remains at the top of the points table with 4 points, edging out Mumbai (also on 4 points) due to a superior net run rate. This win marks Mumbai’s second consecutive victory, moving them to second place.
In other WPL news, Delhi Capitals recorded their second win, defeating UP Warriorz by 7 wickets in a thrilling encounter.
