Fri Feb 21 22:22:14 UTC 2025: ## Delhi’s New CM Orders Immediate Action on Water, Roads, and Social Programs

**New Delhi –** Delhi’s newly appointed Chief Minister Rekha Gupta launched her tenure with a flurry of directives aimed at addressing critical infrastructure and social issues. In her first full day in office, Gupta ordered the Delhi Jal Board (DJB) to submit a comprehensive action plan by Monday to guarantee clean piped water to all households and avert a summer water crisis. She criticized the DJB’s past decade of ineffective summer action plans, demanding a “water-tight” strategy this year. The plan must ensure the supply of clean water and prevent the distribution of contaminated water.

Gupta’s focus extended beyond water, with instructions to the Public Works Department (PWD) to undertake urgent road repairs. “No lethargy will be tolerated,” she warned. Minister Ashish Sood emphasized the government’s top priorities: clean water, sewage management, and road improvements, all to be tackled “on a war footing.” Sood also suggested using drones to monitor road conditions and waste disposal for quicker responses.

Other ministers echoed the urgency. Water Minister Parvesh Verma directed officials to immediately address overflowing sewage issues and implement a system for tracking complaint resolution. Food and Civil Supplies Minister Manjinder Singh Sirsa outlined plans to deliver on the BJP’s manifesto promise of free LPG cylinders to poor households for Holi, despite the tight timeline. Sirsa also voiced concerns over 1,250 acres of vacant industrial land, outlining plans to develop it for green industries. He added that the environment department has been tasked with creating a 100-day action plan to mitigate pollution.

Gupta’s first day also included meetings with President Droupadi Murmu and Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar, where she expressed confidence in receiving their continued support for Delhi’s development. On Saturday, she will chair a meeting to discuss the BJP’s promise of a ₹2,500 monthly allowance for women and the 2025-26 Delhi budget. PWD Minister Verma will inspect ongoing road projects. The new administration’s swift action signals a determined effort to deliver on its campaign promises and address long-standing infrastructural challenges facing Delhi.
