Sat Feb 22 13:20:00 UTC 2025: ## Galveston’s Tutu Live Krewe Awarded for Mardi Gras Contributions
**GALVESTON, TX** – The Tutu Live Krewe, an all-female Galveston-based Mardi Gras dance troupe, will be a highlight of this year’s Mardi Gras! Galveston celebrations. The krewe, which made history as the first all-female Galveston-based group of its kind, will participate in five parades between February 21st and March 4th.
On Friday, February 21st, the krewe will receive the prestigious Newe Krewe Award at a ceremony preceding the George P. Mitchell Mardi Gras Parade. The award recognizes new and exciting krewes that have contributed to Galveston’s Mardi Gras since 2011. Founder Donna Swartz will accept the award on behalf of the 80 dancers and 45 support members.
Swartz emphasized the krewe’s mission to foster a supportive sisterhood for women aged 25 and older, regardless of background or dance experience. Members dedicate thousands of hours to practice, learning numerous choreographed routines. Their performances extend beyond Mardi Gras, including participation in other local parades.
The Tutu Live Krewe’s 2025 Mardi Gras parade schedule includes:
* **February 21st:** George P. Mitchell Mardi Gras Parade
* **February 22nd:** Krewe of Gambrinus Parade
* **February 28th:** Krewe Babalu “All Krewe Parade”
* **March 1st:** Knights of Momus Grand Night Parade
* **March 4th:** Mystic Krewe of Aquarius Parade
Swartz, inspired by New Orleans’ all-female krewes, established the Tutu Live Krewe in 2016 after initially participating in a Galveston parade in 2011. Recruitment for new members will begin in Summer 2025. For more information, visit http://www.tutulivekrewe.com and http://www.mardigrasgalveston.com/parade-schedule/.
