NEW YORK (AP) — Karl-Anthony Towns’ dominant second-half performance (26 points on 12-of-15 shooting) led the New York Knicks to a 113-111 overtime victory over the Chicago Bulls Thursday night. Towns finished with 32 points and 18 rebounds, while Jalen Brunson contributed 22 points and 12 assists. Miles McBride also shone for the Knicks, scoring 22 points.
Despite missing key players Josh Hart (right kneecap pain) and OG Anunoby (sprained right foot), the Knicks improved to 36-18, extending their winning streak to three games and nine out of their last eleven. Mikal Bridges’ late-game block of Nikola Vucevic’s potential game-winning shot in regulation proved crucial. Bridges also contributed 13 points and 10 rebounds.
The Bulls, who have now lost five straight, were led by Josh Giddey’s 27 points and 16 rebounds, and Vucevic’s 21 points. A late 3-pointer by Vucevic put the Bulls ahead, but Brunson’s clutch jumper tied the game. Giddey opened overtime with a three-pointer, but the Knicks responded with a 9-0 run fueled by Towns’ scoring. Although the Bulls closed the gap to 113-111, Vucevic’s final shot attempt fell short.
The Bulls also suffered a setback when Jalen Smith left the game early with a face injury. The Knicks’ Precious Achiuwa added 11 points and nine rebounds. The Knicks face the Cleveland Cavaliers on Friday, while the Bulls host the Phoenix Suns on Saturday.
