Sat Feb 22 17:07:07 UTC 2025: ## Former RBI Governor Shaktikanta Das Appointed to PMO

**New Delhi, February 22, 2025** – Shaktikanta Das, former Governor of the Reserve Bank of India (RBI), has been appointed as Principal Secretary II to Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The appointment, announced by the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet, is seen as strengthening the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO)’s financial expertise amidst current global economic uncertainty.

Das, a 1980 batch Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer from the Tamil Nadu cadre, served as RBI Governor from 2018 to 2023, navigating the Indian economy through the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic. He will work alongside P.K. Mishra, who continues as Principal Secretary I.

This high-level change in the PMO is relatively uncommon under Modi’s tenure. The previous Principal Secretary I, Nripendra Misra, served a full term from 2014 to 2019. P.K. Mishra himself served as Additional Principal Secretary before assuming his current role. The appointment of Das suggests a bolstering of financial management capabilities within the PMO to address the complexities of the current international economic landscape.
