**Mumbai, [Date]** – Actor Aditya Pancholi has avoided serving jail time in a 17-year-old assault case, although his conviction was upheld. A Mumbai sessions court today modified the one-year prison sentence handed down by a magistrate in 2016, instead ordering Pancholi’s release on a bond of good behaviour.
The 59-year-old actor was found guilty of voluntarily causing grievous hurt to Pratik Pashine during a parking dispute in 2005. While the sessions court affirmed the conviction under IPC section 325, it opted to apply the Probation of Offenders Act, allowing Pancholi to avoid imprisonment. However, as a condition of his release, he has been ordered to pay Pashine Rs 1.5 lakh in compensation.
Pancholi had appealed the initial conviction and sentence handed down by the Metropolitan Magistrate (Andheri) in November 2016. Additional Sessions Judge D G Dhoble partially allowed this appeal, resulting in today’s decision.
