**Vijayawada, Andhra Pradesh – February 22, 2025** – The Andhra Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) has announced the formation of an eight-member committee to investigate the Polavaram irrigation project and the plight of displaced families. The committee, led by APCC vice-president S. Martin Luther, will conduct a thorough study across affected villages, focusing on the impact on approximately 56,000 families and nearly 200,000 individuals.
The APCC highlighted the project’s significance, noting that former Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy had considered it a lifeline for the state, completing 33% of the project by 2014 as part of his Jalayagnam initiative. However, the party expressed concern over the central government’s decision to reduce the project’s height, potentially compromising its effectiveness. The committee will investigate this decision and other related issues.
The investigation will cover the Rampachodavaram and Polavaram constituencies. The resulting comprehensive report will inform the APCC’s advocacy for the affected population. The committee’s vice-chairman is State spokesperson N. Kiran Kumar Reddy, with several other party members serving as committee members. The APCC vowed to fight on behalf of the displaced families and the people of Andhra Pradesh.
