**Mumbai, February 21, 2025** – Shiv Sena (UBT) MP Priyanka Chaturvedi has urged for nationwide screenings of the recently released historical drama “Chhaava,” a film depicting the life of Maratha warrior king Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj. Chaturvedi has written to Union Information and Broadcasting Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw and Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, requesting that the film be declared tax-free and shown to all state and national legislators.
In her letters, Chaturvedi emphasized the film’s importance in showcasing a significant period of Indian history and the legacy of Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj. She believes that making the film tax-free will increase accessibility and strengthen the connection between citizens and their historical roots. The MP also highlighted the film’s box office success, having already crossed ₹200 crore within a week of its release.
This call for wider screenings follows similar initiatives by prominent ruling parties in Maharashtra, who have already organized special showings of “Chhaava.” Maharashtra Chief Minister Fadnavis recently stated that the government would promote the film, acknowledging historical injustices against Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj. The film has already received tax-free status in Goa and Maharashtra.
