**CHENNAI, February 21, 2025** – Chennai police have arrested a key suspect in a high-profile burglary that took place in Nungambakkam in January. Sixty-seven-year-old S.H.M. Sulaiman, a businessman from Ramanathapuram district, reported the theft of over 1.5 kg of gold and diamond jewellery, ₹10 lakh in cash, a laptop, an iPhone, and three expensive watches from his Lake Area residence.
The arrested suspect, identified as Chandra Pareyar, a Nepalese national, was employed as a driver and allegedly used his familiarity with the house to facilitate the break-in on December 21, 2024, while the Sulaiman family was away. Police recovered 14.3 grams of jewellery from Pareyar, who has been remanded in judicial custody.
Authorities believe Pareyar planned the burglary with accomplices who remain at large and are suspected to be hiding in Nepal. The police investigation is ongoing, and they hope to recover the remaining stolen items upon the arrest of the other suspects.
