**MUMBAI, INDIA** – The Women’s Premier League (WPL) 2025 witnessed a historic moment during the fifth match between Gujarat Giants and Mumbai Indians. Mumbai Indians captain Harmanpreet Kaur made significant changes to her playing XI, notably including 16-year-old J Kamalini, who became the youngest player ever to debut in the WPL.

Kamalini, a Tamil Nadu all-rounder, shattered the previous record held by Shabnam Shakil (16 years, 263 days). She debuted at 16 years and 213 days old, surpassing even Parshavi Chopra’s record (16 years, 312 days). Highly sought after at the WPL 2025 auction, Mumbai Indians secured her services for ₹1.6 crore after a bidding war with Delhi Capitals.

Known for her powerful hitting, Kamalini honed her skills at the Chennai Super Kings academy. Her recent successes in the Under-19 Women’s Asia Cup and Under-19 Women’s T20 World Cup further showcased her talent. She replaces Saika Ishaq and Kalita in the Mumbai Indians XI.

Mumbai Indians are seeking their first win of the season and will field the following XI: Yastika Bhatia (wk), Hayley Matthews, Nat Sciver-Brunt, Harmanpreet Kaur (capt), Amelia Kerr, J Kamalini, S Sajna, Amanjot Kaur, Sanskriti Gupta, Shabnim Ismail, Parunika Sisodiya.
