**NEW DELHI** – In a stunning upset, BJP’s Parvesh Verma defeated incumbent Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal in the 2025 Delhi Assembly elections. While Verma secured a significant victory in the New Delhi constituency, the BJP opted for Rekha Gupta as the new Chief Minister.
Verma, who was sworn in as a minister on Thursday, received a warm welcome at his residence. His family expressed gratitude to the BJP for the appointment. His daughters, Sanidhi and Trisha, thanked the party and its workers for their support, stating they were happy with the party’s decision regarding the Chief Minister. Verma’s wife, Swati Singh Verma, also expressed her appreciation, stating that she believes the BJP will bring positive change to Delhi.
The swearing-in ceremony for Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, held at the Ramlila Maidan, was a grand affair, attended by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and other dignitaries. Gupta’s appointment marks the BJP’s return to power in Delhi after a 26-year absence and makes her the city’s fourth female Chief Minister.
