**Dubai, UAE –** Pakistan’s Champions Trophy campaign has suffered a major setback with the confirmation that star batsman Fakhar Zaman will miss the remainder of the tournament due to a knee injury.

Zaman sustained the injury while fielding during Pakistan’s opening match against New Zealand. Despite returning to bat, he visibly struggled, scoring a slow 24 runs before being dismissed. While initially described as a muscle sprain, the injury proved more serious, ruling him out of the tournament.

Zaman himself confirmed the news on social media, expressing his disappointment but vowing to return stronger. “Unfortunately I’m now out of ICC Champions Trophy 2025,” he tweeted. “The comeback will be stronger than the setback.”

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has named Imam-ul-Haq as Zaman’s replacement, a move approved by the ICC Event Technical Committee. Imam, a veteran of 72 ODIs, will join the squad immediately.

The absence of Zaman is a significant blow to Pakistan’s hopes. His century in the 2017 Champions Trophy final was instrumental in Pakistan’s victory over India. His absence will undoubtedly be felt, particularly given Pakistan are already without Saim Ayub. While concerns surrounded Haris Rauf’s fitness, he played the opening match.
