Thu Feb 20 09:18:49 UTC 2025: ## BJP Appoints New Delhi Seat Winner Parvesh Sahib Singh Verma as Minister

**New Delhi, [Date]** – Parvesh Sahib Singh Verma, who achieved a significant upset victory over Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal in the recent assembly elections, has been appointed as a minister in the newly formed BJP government. Verma, a Jat leader, had been a contender for the Chief Minister’s post, but Rekha Gupta, a first-time MLA, ultimately secured the top position.

Verma’s win in the New Delhi constituency, previously held by Kejriwal since 2013, marked a major shift in Delhi’s political landscape. He defeated Kejriwal by a margin of 4089 votes, contributing to the BJP’s landslide victory with 48 out of 70 seats. The New Delhi seat, historically a strong indicator of the ruling party’s popularity, saw a fierce three-way contest that included Congress candidate Sandeep Dikshit.

During his campaign, Verma, a two-time West Delhi MP and former Mehrauli MLA, focused heavily on criticizing Kejriwal’s governance. He highlighted allegations of corruption surrounding the renovation of Kejriwal’s official residence, dubbed the “Sheesh Mahal” by the BJP, and questioned the effectiveness of the AAP’s welfare schemes. Verma also pledged to improve infrastructure, address pollution, create jobs, and develop the Yamuna riverfront.

His declared assets increased significantly from Rs 3.2 crore in 2019 to Rs 96.5 crore in 2025, according to his election affidavit. While the AAP alleged irregularities during the election process, including voter list tampering and distribution of freebies, Verma maintained a consistent attack on Kejriwal.

The appointment comes amidst international scrutiny of Indian elections. US President Donald Trump recently expressed concerns about a cancelled $21 million grant for voter turnout, suggesting potential influence on the election outcome. This development adds another layer of complexity to the already significant political changes in Delhi.
