**New Delhi** – Rekha Gupta, a first-time MLA, was sworn in today as Delhi’s fourth woman chief minister, marking the Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) return to power after a 26-year hiatus. The grand ceremony, held at the Ramlila ground, was attended by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, along with numerous chief ministers and deputy chief ministers from across 20 states, and other senior BJP leaders.

Prime Minister Modi praised Ms. Gupta, 50, for her grassroots beginnings and expressed confidence in her ability to lead Delhi’s development. He offered his best wishes for a successful tenure via a post on X (formerly Twitter).

Ms. Gupta’s swearing-in ends the 10-year rule of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) led by Arvind Kejriwal. She joins a select group of women who have held the chief minister’s post in Delhi, including Sushma Swaraj (BJP), Sheila Dikshit (Congress), and Atishi (AAP).

Simultaneously, six other newly elected MLAs – Parvesh Verma, Kapil Mishra, Ashish Sood, Pankaj Singh, Manjinder Singh Sirsa, and Ravinder Indraj – were sworn in as members of Ms. Gupta’s six-member Council of Ministers.
