Thu Feb 20 17:20:37 UTC 2025: ## Tamil Nadu Minister Highlights Role of Education and Startups in Achieving $1 Trillion Economy

**Chennai, February 20, 2025** – Tamil Nadu’s Minister for Information Technology and Digital Services, Palanivel Thiaga Rajan, emphasized the crucial role of educational institutions and startups in driving the state’s economic growth and achieving its ambitious goal of becoming a $1 trillion economy by 2030.

Speaking at a symposium on “EIs (Educational Institutions) and Start-ups on Tamil Nadu’s Vision of a US $1 Trillion Economy by 2030,” Mr. Thiaga Rajan highlighted the significant 65% increase in Global Capability Centres (GCCs) in the state since the DMK government took office, with 99% of this growth achieved without government subsidies.

The Minister stressed the importance of apolitical educational institutions, stating that strong, independent institutions are essential for fostering a prosperous society. He unveiled a compendium of products developed by startups incubated at the Crescent Innovation and Incubation Council (CIIC) and inaugurated new companies at the council.

The symposium, organized by the United Economic Forum (UEF) in collaboration with CIIC, focused on the theme “Educational Institutions as Engines of Economic Growth.” Speakers emphasized the need for greater integration of entrepreneurship, startup support, innovation, incubation, and accelerator centers within educational institutions.
