NEW DELHI – Rekha Gupta, a senior Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader and MLA from Shalimar Bagh, was sworn in as the new Chief Minister of Delhi today. Gupta, born July 19, 1974, in Julana, Haryana, brings a strong academic background and extensive political experience to the role. She holds a Bachelor of Commerce degree from Delhi University, along with advanced degrees in management and arts.

Her political career began with her election as President of the Delhi University Students’ Union (DUSU) from 1996-1997. She subsequently served as a councilor in Uttari Pitampura from 2007 to 2012. Within the BJP, she’s held key positions including General Secretary of the Delhi state unit and currently serves as a member of the National Executive. She has also been active in the BJP Mahila Morcha, focusing on women’s empowerment.

Gupta’s husband, Manish Gupta, a businessman, expressed immense pride in her appointment, describing it as a “miracle.” The couple have two children.

Gupta’s rise marks a significant achievement for women in Indian politics and follows her recent nomination as a Chief Ministerial candidate. She is expected to focus on a “developed Delhi” under the guidance of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
