Thu Feb 20 08:40:00 UTC 2025: ## Bumrah’s Absence Offers Bangladesh a Chance in Champions Trophy: Kayes

**New Delhi:** Former Bangladesh opener Imrul Kayes believes Jasprit Bumrah’s absence from India’s bowling unit presents a significant advantage for Bangladesh in their Champions Trophy opener on February 20th. While acknowledging India’s overall strength, Kayes highlighted the impact of Bumrah’s absence. “India is a strong side with a formidable batting and bowling lineup. But Bumrah is not in the squad. We all know what he has done for Indian cricket in the last two years. His absence gives Bangladesh a chance to capitalize,” Kayes told PTI.

Despite Bumrah’s absence, Kayes acknowledged the threat posed by India’s pace attack, including Mohammed Shami, Harshal Patel, and Arshdeep Singh, noting Shami’s potential to be a major threat if he finds his rhythm.

Bangladesh will also be without key players Shakib Al Hasan and struggling batsman Litton Das. Kayes admitted Shakib’s absence is a major blow, impacting both batting and bowling, potentially forcing Bangladesh to play an extra spinner. While acknowledging Litton’s recent struggles, Kayes expressed some confidence in other batsmen like Soumya Sarkar and Tanzid Tamim.

With Shakib out, Kayes expects vice-captain Mehidy Hasan Miraz to take on a more prominent all-rounder role, praising his courage and confidence. While acknowledging that Miraz can fill some of Shakib’s batting void, Kayes emphasized that replacing Shakib’s left-arm spin bowling will be a significant challenge for Bangladesh. The absence of both Shakib and Bumrah sets up a potentially thrilling encounter between the two teams.
