**Hyderabad, February 19, 2025** – Telangana Irrigation Minister N. Uttam Kumar Reddy has called for immediate federal intervention to resolve the Krishna River water dispute, accusing Andhra Pradesh of illegally diverting water. Speaking at the 2nd All India State Water Ministers’ Conference in Udaipur, Reddy urged the central government to prevent what he termed as injustice to Telangana.
Reddy specifically cited the illegal diversion of water from the Srisailam and Nagarjuna Sagar dams by Andhra Pradesh. He demanded the installation of telemetry instruments to monitor water usage and a swift resolution to the Krishna Water Disputes Tribunal (KWDT-II) case to secure Telangana’s rightful share of the river’s resources.
The minister also requested full central funding for desilting and de-sedimentation of Telangana’s irrigation projects, mirroring support given to other states. He pressed for the speedy completion of the National Dam Safety Authority (NDSA) inquiry into the Medigadda project and a clear recommendation from the Centre on how to proceed. He noted that Telangana has already begun desiltation efforts according to the central framework and sought financial assistance for these initiatives.
Furthermore, Reddy highlighted Telangana’s ambitious Musi Riverfront Development Project, seeking full central financial support similar to that provided for the Ganga and Yamuna rejuvenation projects. The project aims to restore the river’s ecology, improve sewage management, and enhance Hyderabad’s infrastructure while ensuring sustainable water management.
The All India Water Ministers’ Conference, themed “India @ 2047 – A Water Secure Nation,” focused on long-term water security strategies for the country.
