Wed Feb 19 07:27:14 UTC 2025: ## Delhi BJP to Choose New Chief Minister, Oath-Taking Ceremony Planned
**New Delhi, [Date]** – Delhi is set to welcome a new Chief Minister on Wednesday as the BJP Legislature Party meets to elect its leader following their resounding victory in the February 5th Assembly elections. The swearing-in ceremony, scheduled for around noon at the Ramlila Ground, will be a grand affair attended by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and other dignitaries. Around 40 celebrities are expected to be in attendance.
Several names are circulating as potential candidates for the top job, including Parvesh Verma, who defeated Arvind Kejriwal; former Delhi BJP presidents Vijender Gupta and Satish Upadhyay; and other leaders like Pawan Sharma, Ashish Sood, Rekha Gupta, and Shikha Rai. MLAs Ravinder Indraj Singh and Kailash Gangwal are also in contention. Party insiders suggest a “dark horse” candidate may be chosen, mirroring the BJP’s strategy in other states. Chief Ministers from some BJP-ruled states may be absent due to budget presentations. Outgoing Chief Minister Atishi and former Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal will be invited to the ceremony.
Meanwhile, the Supreme Court will hear pleas challenging the appointments of the Chief Election Commissioner and Election Commissioners under the 2023 law, which excluded the Chief Justice of India from the selection process. The government recently appointed Gyanesh Kumar as the new CEC and Vivek Joshi as an Election Commissioner.
In other political news, the Congress will hold a meeting of its newly appointed general secretaries and state in-charges on Wednesday, and the BRS will convene an extended executive meeting in Telangana, where party leader K Chandrasekhar Rao will address party members ahead of local body elections.
