**Philadelphia, PA –** The Philadelphia 76ers have signed guard Lonnie Walker IV to a two-year contract, the team announced today. The deal, initially reported as a $3 million contract by ESPN, is a minimum-salary contract with the second year being a team option. The first year’s value will depend on the timing of his FIBA clearance.
Walker, 26, exercised an opt-out clause in his contract with Zalgiris Kaunas of the EuroLeague, foregoing the remainder of the season in Lithuania. He had previously stated his intention to remain with Zalgiris until the end of the season.
Walker spent the first part of the season playing in the EuroLeague for Zalgiris Kaunas, averaging 13.6 points, 3.2 rebounds, and 1.8 assists in 19 games. His NBA career includes stints with the San Antonio Spurs, Los Angeles Lakers, and Brooklyn Nets, where he averaged 9.7 points per game last season.
The signing comes as the 76ers seek depth at shooting guard with Eric Gordon’s injury status uncertain. Walker will fill the roster spot vacated by David Roddy, whose 10-day contract expires Thursday. This move continues Philadelphia’s trend of successfully signing international talent, following the acquisition of Guerschon Yabusele last year. While Walker’s shooting percentages in the EuroLeague were less impressive (.387 from the field, .331 from three-point range), the Sixers are banking on his scoring ability off the bench.
