Wed Feb 19 13:43:35 UTC 2025: **Delta Plane Crashes and Flips at Toronto Pearson Airport; No Fatalities Reported**
TORONTO, ON – A Delta Connection flight operating a CRJ-900 regional jet crashed and flipped onto its roof while landing at Toronto Pearson International Airport (YYZ) on Monday afternoon. The incident, which occurred around 2:15 p.m. local time, resulted in eighteen passengers sustaining injuries and being transported to local hospitals. Miraculously, there were no fatalities.
Video footage circulating online shows the plane, Delta Flight 4819 originating from Minneapolis-St. Paul, upside down and partially obscured by snow from a recent winter storm. Some reports indicate the plane also caught fire after the crash. Airport officials confirmed that the flight had been cleared to land, but was warned of potential airflow turbulence due to a preceding aircraft.
Following the accident, Toronto Pearson temporarily suspended flights for approximately two and a half hours. Delta Airlines released a statement expressing relief at the lack of fatalities and confirming the activation of its Passenger Inquiry Center to assist affected families. The airline also stated its primary focus is on caring for those injured.
This incident marks at least the fourth major aviation incident in North America in the past month and follows a similar CRJ-700 incident near Reagan National Airport on January 29. The last major crash at Pearson occurred in 2005 when an Air France Airbus A340 skidded off the runway; all aboard survived that incident as well. An investigation into the cause of Monday’s crash is underway.
