Wed Feb 19 04:57:58 UTC 2025: ## Mumbai Indians Clinch First WPL 2025 Victory Over Gujarat Giants

**Ahmedabad, India** – Mumbai Indians secured their first win in the Women’s Premier League (WPL) 2025, defeating Gujarat Giants by five wickets in a thrilling encounter. Chasing a modest 120, Mumbai overcame a shaky start to reach the target with four balls to spare.

Gujarat, after winning the toss and electing to bat first, struggled throughout their innings. They lost wickets regularly, failing to build substantial partnerships. Hayley Matthews was the pick of the Mumbai bowlers, taking three crucial wickets. Nat Sciver-Brunt also contributed significantly, claiming two wickets, including the prized scalp of Beth Mooney early on. Harleen Deol top-scored for Gujarat with 32 runs.

Mumbai’s chase was far from smooth. They lost early wickets, including captain Harmanpreet Kaur (4) and Yastika Bhatia (8). However, a sensational 57-run knock from Nat Sciver-Brunt steadied the ship. Although she departed with Mumbai needing just seven runs to win, Sanjeevan Sajana finished the job with a four, securing a crucial victory for the Harmanpreet Kaur-led side.

This win marks Mumbai’s first against Gujarat Giants in WPL history, extending their unbeaten record against this opponent. The match also marked the WPL debut of Mumbai’s U-19 star, G Kamalini.
