Wed Feb 19 04:57:58 UTC 2025: ## Musk’s xAI Unveils Grok-3 Chatbot, Challenging AI Giants

**San Francisco, CA** – Elon Musk’s artificial intelligence company, xAI, has launched Grok-3, a new chatbot designed to rival industry leaders like OpenAI’s ChatGPT and Google’s Gemini. Initially available to X (formerly Twitter) Premium+ subscribers, Grok-3 boasts significantly increased processing power compared to its predecessor, Grok-2, and claims to surpass benchmarks in AI industry tests.

Musk, in a live stream unveiling, described Grok-3 as “maximally truth-seeking AI,” even if that truth clashes with political correctness. This assertion comes despite Musk’s history of spreading misinformation on his X platform. The chatbot, accessible through the X platform and a new SuperGrok subscription, lacks some of the content restrictions found in competitor models, allowing users to generate images and text, including deepfakes and manipulated copyrighted material.

Grok-3 features a new “Big Brain” mode for complex research and integrates DeepSearch, a reasoning-based search engine capable of explaining its thought processes. This functionality mirrors recent updates from OpenAI and Google, who have added similar research capabilities to their respective chatbots.

While xAI claims Grok-3 significantly outperforms its predecessors, industry analyst Gil Luria of DA Davidson suggests the improvements may not justify the immense resources invested in its development. xAI is rapidly expanding its computing capacity, citing its “Colossus” supercomputer cluster as the world’s largest, fueled by billions of dollars in funding.

The launch comes amidst a heated AI arms race, particularly with the rise of Chinese AI firm DeepSeek. The news follows a recent $97.4 billion offer from a Musk-led consortium to acquire OpenAI’s non-profit assets, an offer that was rejected. The timing also coincides with Musk’s significant involvement in reshaping US federal government policy under the Trump administration, a topic Grok-3 itself commented on when prompted.
