Wed Feb 19 17:02:38 UTC 2025: ## BJP’s Rekha Gupta to be Sworn in as Delhi’s Next Chief Minister
**New Delhi, February 19** – Rekha Gupta, a first-time BJP MLA, will be sworn in as Delhi’s next chief minister on Thursday, February 20th, at 11 am. The ceremony, a grand affair to be held at the historic Ramlila Maidan, will be attended by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, and other senior BJP leaders.
Gupta, elected from the Shalimar Bagh constituency, was chosen as the leader of the BJP’s legislative party following a meeting earlier today. Her selection marks a historic return to power for the BJP in Delhi after a 27-year absence. The party secured a resounding victory in the recent assembly elections, winning 48 out of 70 seats.
Gupta’s appointment makes her the second woman Chief Minister from the BJP and the fourth woman to hold the post in Delhi’s history. She has a strong background in student politics, having served as President of the Delhi University Students’ Union.
The AAP, the outgoing ruling party, has congratulated Gupta but expressed concern over the delay in announcing the new chief minister. Meanwhile, BJP leaders have hailed Gupta’s selection, emphasizing their commitment to fulfilling the promises made to the people of Delhi and transforming the city into a world-class capital.
Extensive security measures are in place for the swearing-in ceremony at Ramlila Maidan, with thousands of police and paramilitary personnel deployed to manage the large crowds expected. Traffic advisories have been issued to minimize disruption.
