**NEW DELHI, Feb 19, 2025** – The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is poised to form a new government in Delhi after winning 48 seats in the recent Assembly elections. A party legislators’ meeting is scheduled for Wednesday evening to finalize the name of the next Chief Minister, with the swearing-in ceremony planned for Thursday at Ramlila Maidan.

While several prominent leaders are reportedly contenders, the BJP’s track record of surprising CM appointments in other states has left party insiders speculating. Preparations for the highly anticipated oath-taking ceremony, expected to commence at 11 a.m. on Thursday, are underway at Ramlila Maidan, with Delhi BJP president Virendra Sachdeva overseeing the arrangements.

The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), however, criticized the BJP for delaying the announcement of its CM candidate, even ten days after the election results. AAP Delhi convener Gopal Rai compared the elaborate ceremony to a wedding procession without a known groom, highlighting the unusual delay in naming the leader who will head the government.

Security will be tight for the event, with over 5,000 Delhi police personnel and 10 companies of paramilitary forces deployed across 2,500 locations around Ramlila Maidan. Top BJP leaders, including Chief Ministers from BJP-ruled states, are expected to attend. The extensive security measures include emergency response teams, snipers, and multiple layers of barricades.
