Wed Feb 19 14:09:05 UTC 2025: ## Delhi BJP’s CM Candidate to be Announced Shortly: Verma, Gupta, and Sood Frontrunners

**New Delhi, [Date]:** The suspense over Delhi’s next Chief Minister will end soon, as the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is set to announce its choice after its resounding victory in the recent Assembly elections. Speculation has been rife since February 8th, with several names including Pravesh Verma, Rekha Gupta, Ashish Sood, and Ravinder Inder Raj surfacing. However, the focus has narrowed to three leading contenders ahead of the BJP legislature party meeting scheduled for 7 PM today.

Former Union Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad and BJP national secretary Om Prakash Dhankhar have been appointed observers for the election of the legislature party leader. Reports suggest that the central leadership has already shortlisted a candidate for the Chief Minister’s post.

Pravesh Verma, who defeated Arvind Kejriwal in the New Delhi constituency, is considered the strongest contender. His victory, coupled with the BJP’s sweep of all 10 Jat-dominated seats, strengthens his claim. However, concerns about dynastic politics may work against him, given his father’s previous tenure as Chief Minister.

Rekha Gupta, a winning candidate from Shalimar Bagh and a prominent figure within the BJP, is another strong possibility. Her win, particularly given the intense competition for the women’s vote between the BJP and AAP, makes her a strong contender. The BJP’s success in securing the women’s vote despite AAP’s welfare schemes is seen as a significant factor in her favor.

Ashish Sood, who won from Janakpuri, is also in the running. His experience within the BJP, including roles in the Yuva Morcha and as a councilor, adds to his credentials.

The BJP’s choice will be closely watched, marking a significant moment for the party after a 27-year wait to return to power in Delhi.
