**New Delhi, February 12, 2025** – India is accelerating its transition to cleaner energy sources, with plans to significantly increase the use of liquefied natural gas (LNG) and biofuels, Union Minister of Petroleum and Natural Gas Hardeep Singh Puri announced Tuesday. Speaking at the inauguration of India Energy Week 2025, Puri stated that India aims to boost LNG usage from 6% to 15% through newly signed long-term agreements with Qatar.

The minister emphasized that India is not facing an energy deficit and is actively pursuing a diversified energy portfolio. This includes massive investments in LNG storage infrastructure, a push towards biofuel production to reach 20% green energy usage by incentivizing electrolysers, and a commitment to utilizing 500 million tonnes of biofuel feedstock. Furthermore, India plans to scale its hydrogen energy production to 5 million metric tonnes by 2030, with $96 billion already invested in hydrogen projects and $30 billion in refining and petrochemical expansion related to LNG.

Puri highlighted India’s achievement of 100% electrification and widespread access to clean cooking fuel through the Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana (PMUY). He also launched Open Acreage Licensing Policy X, opening up 25 blocks covering 191,986 sq km for hydrocarbon exploration and licensing.
