Tue Feb 18 12:30:00 UTC 2025: ## Northeast to Dodge Major Nor’easter, While Midwest Braces for Record Snow
**New York, NY –** A powerful nor’easter set to sweep across the US mid-week will largely bypass major East Coast cities, delivering a sigh of relief to residents from New York to Boston. While some light snow and wintry mix are possible in the tri-state area, accumulations are expected to be minimal, with perhaps an inch or less in New York City. New England will see even less impact.
However, the central Plains and parts of the Ohio Valley are bracing for a significantly different scenario. Up to a foot of snow is possible in areas from eastern Kansas and Missouri to Kentucky and parts of the mid-Atlantic south of Washington D.C. Some regions could even see record-breaking snowfall. The Interstate 90 corridor, from Des Moines, Iowa to Chicago, is expected to be particularly hard hit, with moderate to heavy snow. The Norfolk, Virginia area could also see up to 12 inches.
“The winter storm developing in the Plains… is going to get potentially record snow,” said Fox Forecast Center meteorologist Stephen McCloud. He noted the storm is moving across areas recently impacted by severe flooding, adding to the challenges.
While the forecast offers good news for the Northeast, meteorologists caution that uncertainty remains about the storm’s exact path and snowfall totals. Temperatures in New York City are expected to remain in the mid-20s Fahrenheit before rising to the mid-30s by Thursday afternoon.
