**SHAHAPUR, Karnataka –** A major police raid on a gambling den in Shahapur town, Karnataka, resulted in the arrest of 13 individuals and the seizure of ₹10 lakh (approximately $120,000 USD) in cash. The February 18th operation, led by Deputy Superintendent of Police Nagaraj of the CEN police station, targeted a house in a prime location. Three suspects escaped.

The raid, overseen by Superintendent of Police Pruthvik Shankar, has sparked controversy due to its execution by a team from the district headquarters, rather than the local Shahapur police. Shahapur is the hometown of District-in-Charge Minister Sharanabasappa Darshanapur, raising questions about potential inaction by local authorities.

While SP Shankar stated that local police had previously conducted raids on illegal gambling activities in the taluk, he described this operation as “a big one.” A case has been registered against 17 individuals. A local social activist expressed concern over the ongoing prevalence of gambling in the town.
