Mon Feb 17 15:00:57 UTC 2025: ## TNAU Empowers Farmer Producer Organisations with Management Training
**Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu, February 17, 2025** – The Tamil Nadu Agricultural University (TNAU) is bolstering the management capabilities of Farmer Producer Organisations (FPOs) through a comprehensive training program. The initiative, delivered through fortnightly networking meetings, focuses on crucial areas like bookkeeping, governance, and overall management.
Last year, 112 FPOs under TNAU’s ambit received training from experts. This year’s program targets FPOs specializing in coconut, fruits and vegetables, rice, maize, pulses, and oilseeds. The training aims to address challenges highlighted in the Tamil Nadu Policy for Promotion of FPOs, which acknowledges a lack of robust support systems for these organizations.
D. Suresh Kumar, Director of TNAU’s Centre for Agricultural and Rural Development Studies, stated that the program has received positive feedback. The university’s research centers and affiliated colleges are actively involved in supporting the FPOs. The training extends beyond basic management, encompassing interpersonal skills, conflict resolution, shareholder engagement, and team building to ensure sustainable growth. Furthermore, TNAU assists registered FPOs in meeting statutory requirements and securing necessary licenses.
The program is designed to equip FPOs with the skills to secure funding for various needs, from working capital to infrastructure development and business expansion. This multi-faceted approach aims to transform FPOs from start-ups into thriving, well-managed business entities. The initiative receives support from multiple agencies including the Department of Agricultural Marketing and Agri Business, NABARD, SFAC, and others.
