**Auroville, Puducherry, February 16, 2025** – The 15th annual Auroville Marathon drew a record-breaking 3,300 participants from across India and beyond on Sunday. The event, held in various distance categories, showcased a diverse range of runners, including veterans, newcomers, and a 10-member group of visually impaired participants who completed the 10K run with the assistance of guides.
The marathon began at 5 a.m. with the 42-km full marathon, flagged off by G. Seetharaman, Officer on Special Duty, Auroville Foundation. This was followed by the half marathon and a 10K run. A children’s run was also held later in the morning.
Participants praised the unique Auroville experience, highlighting the opportunity to run through the sylvan township and its scenic interiors. Hari Sankar, a Chennai-based physiotherapist participating in the half-marathon, described the atmosphere as magical, with Aurovillian artists providing musical accompaniment along the route. He completed the 21K race in 2 hours and 15 minutes.
The Auroville Marathon team emphasized the event’s motto, “Run for the Joy of Running,” celebrating community, health, and the vibrant spirit of Auroville. The marathon attracted runners with diverse backgrounds and motivations, united by their passion for the sport.
