**SAO PAULO, BRAZIL –** The next BRICS summit will be held in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, on July 6th and 7th, the Brazilian government announced on Saturday. Brazil, which holds the bloc’s chairmanship for 2025, stated its intention to prioritize global governance reform and cooperation among Global South nations.

The BRICS group, initially composed of Brazil, Russia, India, and China (with South Africa joining in 2010), has significantly expanded in recent years. Iran, Egypt, Ethiopia, and the UAE were added last year, with Saudi Arabia also receiving an invitation to join. Indonesia is now a member, and Nigeria holds the status of a “partner country.” Several other nations have expressed interest in joining.

Brazilian Foreign Minister Mauro Vieira emphasized the summit’s importance in making “crucial decisions for development, cooperation, and improving the lives of all the inhabitants of these countries.” The summit will also include partner countries. The announcement follows previous discussions within BRICS regarding the development of an alternative payment system independent of the US dollar.
