Sun Feb 16 09:46:20 UTC 2025: ## Tamil Nadu Ministers Condemn Hindi Imposition, Demand Fair Funding

**Chennai, February 16, 2025** – Tamil Nadu’s ministers have strongly criticized Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan’s remarks on the state’s three-language policy, escalating tensions over Hindi imposition and federal funding.

Deputy Chief Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin rejected Mr. Pradhan’s suggestion that Tamil Nadu’s stance was politically motivated, stating that Tamil identity predates any political agenda. He warned against further pressure to adopt Hindi, asserting that Tamil Nadu’s contribution to the national GDP warrants equitable financial support for education. Mr. Stalin’s social media post cautioned against provoking Tamil Nadu, referencing the state’s history since independence.

Finance Minister Thangam Thennarasu echoed these sentiments, questioning why Tamil Nadu’s substantial contribution (9%) to the Union’s GDP should be conditional upon accepting specific policies. He emphasized the state’s right to receive its fair share of funds without strings attached. The ministers’ statements represent a firm rejection of any attempts to impose Hindi and a demand for greater financial autonomy.
