Sat Feb 15 21:30:00 UTC 2025: **Auburn Earns Top Seed in NCAA Tournament Bracket Preview**
**GREENSBORO, NC –** Auburn University has been named the number one overall seed in the NCAA men’s basketball tournament’s mock bracket, revealed Saturday by the selection committee. Committee chair Bubba Cunningham announced that the Tigers were a unanimous choice for the top spot, despite a recent home loss to Florida. Their impressive 13 Quadrant 1 wins, surpassing all other teams by a significant margin, solidified their position.
The SEC dominated the top of the bracket. Alabama, Auburn’s rival, claimed the number two seed, while Florida secured the final number one seed, edging out Tennessee thanks to their upset victory over Auburn. Texas A&M rounded out the top six, resulting in five of the top six seeds belonging to the Southeastern Conference. Cunningham highlighted the SEC’s unprecedented strength this season, noting its potential for historic tournament representation.
Other notable seeds include Duke at number three, and Purdue and Houston as number two seeds. The committee acknowledged the recent inconsistencies of Iowa State and Kentucky, attributing some of their struggles to injuries. Michigan State and Marquette were also considered for the top 16.
This mock bracket, the only one released this season, serves as a valuable learning experience for the committee, particularly its five new members. The actual NCAA tournament bracket will be revealed on Selection Sunday, March 16.
