Sun Feb 16 01:31:49 UTC 2025: **New Delhi Stampede Kills at Least 15 at Railway Station**

NEW DELHI (AP) — A stampede at New Delhi’s railway station on Saturday night left at least 15 people dead and many injured, officials said Sunday. Thousands were gathered at the station, waiting to board a train heading to the Maha Kumbh Hindu festival in northern India when the incident occurred.

Delhi’s caretaker chief minister, Atishi, confirmed that the bodies were taken to Lok Nayak Jai Prakash Narain Hospital. Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed his condolences, stating he was “distressed” by the tragedy and offering prayers for the injured. He also assured that authorities were providing assistance to those affected.

Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw announced an investigation into the cause of the stampede. This incident follows a similar tragedy last month at the Maha Kumbh festival itself, where at least 30 people died in a stampede. The large crowds attending the festival appear to be a recurring factor in these deadly events.
