**LAKE CHARLES, LA** – Southwest Louisiana residents are urged to be weather aware this Saturday evening as showers and thunderstorms are expected, with a slight chance of severe weather. A Tornado Watch is currently in effect for Vernon Parish until 10 PM. The National Weather Service advises downloading a weather app for immediate warning alerts.
Following the evening storms, which are expected to clear by midnight, much cooler temperatures are anticipated. Sunday will bring sunshine and highs struggling to reach 60 degrees, but with breezy northwest winds gusting to 20-30 mph. Monday will offer a brief respite with highs near 60 and sunny skies.
However, another weather system is expected to move through Tuesday and Wednesday, bringing another round of rain. While no severe weather is anticipated with this system, significantly colder temperatures will follow. Thursday morning lows are forecast to be near or below freezing, with areas north of I-10 potentially seeing temperatures in the 20s. Highs on Thursday may not climb above the 40s. Residents are advised to prepare for these potentially freezing conditions.
