Sat Feb 15 15:26:12 UTC 2025: ## Thousands of Serbian Students March for Justice After Train Station Tragedy

**KRAGUJEVAC, SERBIA** — Tens of thousands of students from across Serbia converged on Kragujevac today in a massive demonstration demanding justice for the victims of last year’s deadly train station roof collapse in Novi Sad and accountability for widespread corruption and nepotism. The protest, the latest in a series of nationwide demonstrations, represents a significant challenge to President Aleksandar Vučić’s rule.

Fifteen people died when the Novi Sad train station roof collapsed on November 1st, sparking outrage and fueling long-simmering public anger over alleged government corruption. The student-led movement, which has garnered widespread public support, has become Serbia’s largest protest movement in years.

Braving near-freezing temperatures, students arrived in Kragujevac by bus and on foot, carrying the national flag and staging a 15-hour and 15-minute blockade of a main boulevard – a symbolic tribute to the victims. A 15-minute moment of silence was also observed.

“We are here to fight for a better tomorrow, against corruption,” stated 20-year-old Jovan, a participant from Belgrade. The protests have already resulted in the resignation of Prime Minister Milos Vucevic and charges against 13 individuals in connection with the train station disaster. However, students remain unsatisfied, demanding the release of documents related to the collapse, the dismissal of charges against fellow protesters, increased higher education funding, and ultimately, true justice for the victims.

Two mathematics students, Ivan and Ivana, walked four days from Belgrade to Kragujevac to participate, highlighting the widespread nature of the student movement’s support. “We wanted to show the people living in the country that we support them,” Ivan explained. “We do not think only about the people in Belgrade.” The students vow to continue their protests until their demands are met.
